Hi, and kicking off tonight in London with the Archie Bronson Outfit, it's a nation-wide week of live gigs to celebrate the halls, pubs and clubs that make up our live music scene. Without this network of gigs and their promoters, we'd have never got off the ground. Go check out a band you've heard of at a venue near you! See you there -

This photo of the Earth was taken by Voyager 1 in February, 1990. The spacecraft was 3.7 billion miles away from Earth.
"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilisation, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar", every "supreme" leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner , how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."
Carl Sagan.
A few months ago I was lucky enough to be approached by one of my favourite radio stations to make a series of programmes.
On Sunday 28th July between 4pm and 6pm I'll be presenting the Sounds of South Africa on BBC 6 Music. It's a programme all about South African music with a bit of politics thrown in.
As Global Ambassador of the Children's Radio Foundation I've recently travelled round South Africa a bit and I've heard a load of fantastic music. I'll be playing some of my favourites in between some clips as produced by the Children's Radio Foundation.
There's also an interview with Jeremy Vine about his time in South Africa as the BBC correspondent. It was fun to be on the other side of the microphone, asking the questions for a change.
Have a look at www.childrensradiofoundation.org if you haven't already.
